ABOUT OAKDALE MEAT CO

Oakdale Meat Co offers an extensive range of premium beef products to retail, food service & the wholesale domestic market.

Oakdale Meat Co History

Oakdale Meat Company is family owned and operated by John Dawson and his family. John has over 40 years of experience in the beef industry and has always been committed to the Oakdale brand. Oakdale Meat Company was established in 1967 by John’s father Jack. Jack also had a meat export business, “Jack Dawson Exports Pty Ltd”, which was established in the 1942. Jack started his career as a cattle buyer and slaughterman. He would buy the livestock and slaughter them himself and then sell the carcasses onto butcher shops and boning rooms. Jack saw an opportunity at a cannery in Melbourne to open his own boning room and supply fresh boneless beef direct to the cannery. This is really where it all started. From here he bought a meat processing facility and butcher shop in Hawthorn, Melbourne and started exporting meat around the world under the name of “Jack Dawson Exports”. The butcher shop at Hawthorn was named Oakdale Meat Company, selling wholesale meat to the public and the food service industry in Victoria.

John came into the business as a teenager, starting as a labourer in the boning room and spending time at livestock markets learning the art of cattle buying. As his knowledge grew, John became the manager of his father's business. John learned the meat industry with diligence and aptitude and with a keen interest in the livestock and export market. John has been expanding the business ever since and has gone on to establish Oakdale to be the company it is today. Concentrating on the domestic market, Oakdale has become one of the largest domestically accredited boning rooms in Australia, processing around 300 tonnes of beef per week, supplying supermarkets, smallgoods and food services in Australia.
